Small businesses, start-ups and not-for profits turn to Bond’s free legal advice

-

SMALL businesses and not for-are being encouraged to access free legal advice through the Bond Law Clinic.

They can obtain advice on issues including business structures, risk management and trademarks.

Staffed by Bond law students, under the supervision of legal practitioners, the Bond Law Clinic is open to the public each second Wednesday during the Bond semester, between 5pm and 7pm. The next clinic is on June 10.

Those planning on starting a small business, small business owners and not-forprofit organisations can access the free community service.

Bond Law Clinic director, Assistant Professor Francina Cantatore, said the clinic, now in its second year, was hugely popular, providing advice for about 20 businesses each month.

“The service was set up to support the many small businesses and not-for-profit organisations operating on the Gold Coast, who may not seek legal advice otherwise due to the cost,” she said.

“At the same time, it is a great opportunity for Bond students to gain practical experience and work under the guidance of legal practitioners, while also making a real difference to these organisations.

“The advice provided to these small businesses and not-for-profits often helps them to move forward, so it is a real win-win all round.”

The Bond Law Clinic provides basic legal advice on business structures, intellectual property, consumer protection and competition regulation, risk management and insurance, human resource management and industrial relations, disputes, contracts, franchising, leasing, debt recovery and licensing.

The Bond Law Clinic is located at Level 2 of the Legal Skills Building. Appointments can be made at bondlawclinic@bond.edu.au or by calling 5595 1070.
