‘Lazy’ Ball Reno rage
DEPARTING Reno Rumble contestant Ben Van Ryt says disgruntled former teammate Steve Ball is lazy.
Ball took to social media last week to all but blame Van Ryt and the rest of the Blue Tongue contestants for being made redundant.
Ball suggested last week that his bosses had been swayed by contestants calling him lazy and not a team player.
He also posted on Instagram that he hoped a Redbacks couple, which are the Blue Tongues opponents, wins the Nine Network series.
Van Ryt says he’s not sure why Ball has teed-off about his on-screen colleagues.
“I’m blown out the water, I’m like what the hell. I thought it was all happy days when we were filming,” Van Ryt said.
“The show is about thanking sponsors ... it’s not necessarily about venting your anger at another team like that, it’s like playground material.
“It is frustration and I personally think he is lazy and that’s it.”
Van Ryt and his wife Jemma were ousted on Sunday, leaving just one Blue Tongue team, Carly Schulz and Leighton Brow, remaining.
There are still three Redbacks couples on the show.
Now they’re off the series, Van Ryt is pouring his energies into his own carpentry business while Jemma looks after their six-month-old son Thomas.
He said it’s important for reality show contestants to be mindful of how they are perceived by the general public when a series ends.
“You don’t want to be seen in a bad light because there is a knock on effect ... and they can use that against you,” he said. RENO RUMBLES AIRS SUNDAY TO WEDNESDAY ON THE NINE NETWORK
