WRITE TO: P0 BOX 1, SOUTHPORT 4215 EMAIL: editorial@goldcoast.com.au FACEBOOK: facebook.com/goldcoastbulletin WHILE driving home recently I noticed a young man on the side of the road “spruiking” himself as a candidate for Division 11 at the March 2016 Gold Coast City Council elections.

On perusing material on Mr Hermann Vorster, I was impressed with his commitment to a range of community organisations and as a small-business owner.

When I noticed him again yesterday I decided to pull over and have a chat with him.

Having spent over 30 years in the banking, investment, funds management and asset consulting industries, my pet hate is financial incompetence at all levels of government – a concern shared by Mr Vorster.

May I suggest that other residents in Division 11 (Robina, Varsity Lakes and part of Burleigh Waters) take a few minutes of their time to look at the credentials of Mr Vorster. RON LAWTON, ROBINA I WRITE to congratulate the Boomerang Birdies ladies’ golf group for the tremendous success of the 17th Annual Boomerang Farm Ladies Charity Day at Mudgeeraba. More than 200 locals took part in the event, which raised more than $30,000 for Cancer Council Queensland.

The funds raised will go towards vital cancer research and support services for women affected by breast cancer.

The success of the event is a credit to the Boomerang Birdies and event co-ordinator Desleigh Butler OAM, who have been proudly supporting Cancer Council Queensland since 1999, raising almost $370,000 in that time.

On behalf of Cancer Council Queensland, I take this opportunity to offer my deepest appreciation to the Boomerang Birdies, the Boomerang Farm Golf Course, and all those in the local community who attended and supported the gala event.

We commend your enthusiasm for encouraging Queenslanders to be aware, show they care, and wear something pink in support of women’s cancers.

My heartfelt thanks once again. PROFESSOR JEFF DUNN, CHIEF EXECUTIVE, CANCER COUNCIL QUEENSLAND THERE are those dishonourable people, the so-called scavengers of our society, who exploit, use and abuse our elders, who “Suppress the Wisdom of The Elders”.

There are those dishonourable people, the so-called scavengers, who will also exploit, use and abuse our youth, taking “Their Innocence”.

These exploiters are the people in society who must be dealt with more harshly within our Australian laws. ROZ YOUNG, GOLD COAST
