Ford ace fears future

Reynolds uncontracted and ‘running out of options’ for 2016 drive

- JAMES PHELPS

HE is the reigning Bathurst 1000 shootout winner and is coming third in the V8 Supercars’ championship – but Dave Reynolds could be dumped next year in a stunning V8 omission.

A proven race winner in line to snatch the V8 title from fellow Ford driver Mark Winterbottom, Reynolds last night spoke about his fears for the future with the off-contract driver still without a deal beyond this year.

The Ford star admitted he could be left out in the cold if he is not re-signed by Prodrive Racing Australia (PRA).

“I’m running out of options,’’ Reynolds said on the eve of the Gold Coast 600, which begins with practice on the famous Surfers Paradise Street track today.

“I have no idea where I will be next year, or what I will be doing.

“Yeah I might not be in this sport. It is crazy but that is the way it could go. It’s racing, it is a business and I might get burnt.”

Tim Slade has snatched one of the last potential seats for next season from Reynolds by signing with Brad Jones Racing (BJR) this week after the reigning Gold Coast 600 winner failed to make a snap decision to sign.

Reynolds was offered a seat at the Albury-based Holden team but is still waiting on Prodrive to make a decision between him and young gun Cameron Waters.

“I needed more time,’’ Reynolds said.

“Obviously I want to stay where I am and I’ll give myself every opportunity to make that happen. But for sure, it could cost me big time.’’

Prodrive are considering replacing Reynolds with Dunlop series sensation Waters because the young gun could potentially bring new sponsors to the team. He is also a star in the making. Team co-owner Rod Nash has not ruled out re-signing Reynolds, though he has admitted his future depends on sponsorship as the team struggle to bounce back following their dumping as an official factory supported Ford team.

Reynolds was expected to be snapped up by a rival team – but he could be the last man standing in V8s very own version of musical chairs.
