Carl tries to outshine Chinese
A GOLD Coast lighting manufacturer is going headtowith cheap Chinese imports.
Helensvale-based Aqualuma, which produces commercial LED lights for use in big box retail stores, stadiums, carparks and other places, is launching a new product called The Lite-bay.
The 130-watt light retails at under $400, a price point which compares favourably to imports priced between $300 and $400.
The entry-level hi-bay light is 30 per cent cheaper than Aqualuma’s other products.
Aqualuma co-founder Carl Amor said the market has been flooded in recent years with cheaper, poor-quality imports.
“The new Lite-bay allows us to compete in a sector where clients need a straightforward lighting solution,” he said.
“The lights are energy-efficient and we can beat the imports on price.”
The Lite-bay was designed to provide a simple and costeffective solution for clients requiring high output where specialised optics, controls and complex installations are not needed.
The lights, assembled at Aqualuma’s Helensvale factory, are housed in epoxy-powdercoated aluminium and come with a three-year warranty.
“We export our present range to the United Kingdom, USA, Canada, New Zealand and we expect future demand for the new Lite-bay to be strong,” Mr Amor said.
Aqualuma has won a raft of awards, most recently picking up the Environmental Solutions gong at the Premier of Queensland’s Export Awards last year.
Mr Amor and his brother, Grant Amor, founded Aqualuma in 2004 after running a car and boat trimming businesses for decades.
It exports about 10,000 hibay units and 8000 underwater units each year.
