I HAVE been reading with interest this so-called takeover of the Titans by the ex North Sydney Bears (Taking NRL licence won’t be picnic for Bears, GCB, 15/3/17).

Apparently they have $7 million to spend. And they expect to take over the club with that amount. You are kidding. But I have other reservations. Firstly, the Titans are now owned by the NRL. And the NRL governs rugby league in this country.

Secondly, without the injection of millions of dollars from media organisations we wouldn’t have a game on TV four nights a week.

And the print media, plus radio, give acres of space and time promoting rugby league.

I guess the media don’t have to be asked permission for an ex-Sydney club to buy into the local Gold Coast team.

And who cares if the plan is for the Titans, sorry the Gold Coast Bears, to play a game on the Central Coast of NSW and one at the old North Sydney Oval?

The NRL is desperate for the Titans to have an owner and be able to stand alone.

But there is something missing – has anyone had the decency to ask the people of the Gold Coast what they think?

These are the fans who in 2007 got behind their local team and made it happen. To have another name change – the sixth since 1988 – is a nonsense.

Without fans – united, community-driven people – you don’t have a rugby league team. ROCKY MILLER, BROADBEACH

Editor’s note: Roy Rocky Miller was managing director of Gold Publications from 1999 to 2008. He played a role in getting the Titans licence and later spent three years on the board of the NRL. THE bullies have over-reached this time (Gay marriage split just a distraction, GCB, 20/3/17).

To say the majority of Australians and MPs support same-sex marriage is an outright lie; where is the evidence? Only 23 countries out of 198 have agreed to same-sex marriage.

The Pope has recently said “No” to same-sex marriage on behalf of 1.3 billion Catholics.

A Chinese court has also ruled against same-sex marriage, on behalf of the 1.5 billion Chinese.

Muslims, 1.7 billion of them, do not accept anything but marriage between a man and a few women.

That’s over 60 per cent of the world’s population. Ask yourself, can 4.5 billion people be wrong?

ABS statistics reveal that only 3 per cent of Australians are homosexual, and this is the same in every country.

Why don’t we have a plebiscite to prove the point or does the gay community fear the views of the 97 per cent silent, straight majority? DERRICK AUSTIN, CURRUMBIN WATERS
