Aloisi cited after dust-up

- MARCO MONTEVERDE

BRISBANE Roar assistant coach Ross Aloisi is facing a hefty ban for his altercation with Adelaide United counterpart Jacobo Ramallo.

Aloisi was yesterday cited under Football Federation Australia’s national code of conduct after being accused of striking Ramallo in the Coopers Stadium tunnel in the fiery aftermath to the Roar’s controversial 2-1 loss to the Reds on Sunday.

Roar football director Craig Moore was also found to have breached the code for comments he directed at referee Stephen Lucas after the final whistle of the A-League game.

Moore was infuriated with Lucas’s stoppage-time decisions to send off Roar goalkeeper Michael Theo and award the Reds a match-deciding penalty.

The Roar have until 4pm tomorrow to submit showcause applications to FFA over the Aloisi and Moore incidents. Kingsman said that in Moore’s case, there would be little the club could do in the face of sanctions including fines and/or suspensions.

“In the heat of the moment, Craig made some inappropriate comments,” Kingsman said. “Craig’s not denying what he said.

In terms of Aloisi’s matter, Kingsman said the Roar would submit “their side of the story”.

Aloisi’s punishment is likely to end his season, with fears the suspension could extend into the 2017-18 campaign.

“We need to take our time and not let emotion get involved – we need to look at all the facts and so do the FFA,” said Kingsman, who will meet with Aloisi today.

Aloisi was yesterday sent out a side exit at Brisbane Airport to avoid waiting media upon the Roar squad’s return from Adelaide.

It’s understood Aloisi had scans yesterday on his left shoulder, which was damaged when he was allegedly manhandled by a security guard in the tunnel following his altercation with Ramallo.

Earlier yesterday, Adelaide United chairman Greg Griffin said his would not lodge an official complaint against Aloisi.

“We have a very good relationship with the Roar,” Griffin said. “FFA will investigate what happened and deal with it.”

Theo has been banned for two matches for elbowing Adelaide defender Dylan McGowan in the face after he grabbed the goalkeeper from behind in trying to stop him releasing the ball.

Kingsman suggested the club would appeal against the length of Theo’s ban.

“I got told the ban was two matches because it happened off the ball but how can it have happened off the ball when Theo was holding the ball?” Kingsman said.

Apart from Theo, the Roar will also be without skipper Matt McKay for Saturday night’s home clash against Melbourne Victory.

McKay suffered a knee injury in the loss to Adelaide.
