Jazz gig’s bum note
THE Broadbeach Jazz Festival has been cancelled after failing to attract enough out of town guests and cash to make the music weekend sustainable.
The Broadbeach Alliance quietly let slip about dropping the festival during the six monthly presentation to the Gold Coast City Council’s Governance and Administration Committee.
Broadbeach Alliance CEO Jan McCormick said the decision was made based on the number of visitors the festival bought to the area.
“It really is a locals festival so we are parking that festival and doing some feasibility work on what to replace it with,” she said.
Last year’s festival was also plagued by bad weather and a major sponsor dropping out.
The festival attracted about $1.3 million to the area – just a fraction of the $6.4 million attracted by the Broadbeach Country Music Festival and the $23.1 million attracted by the Broadbeach Blues Festival.
