DURANBAH Boardriders have soared to their third straight women’s national Surftag title, leading a Gold Coast 1-2 at North Narrabeen Beach.

North End Boardriders (63.27), from the Main Beach to Broadbeach stretch of the Coast, were the nearest challengers but could not stop a come-from-behind effort by all-conquering D’Bah (72.43) while Alley from Currumbin placed equal fifth.

Audrey Styman-Lane led the way for D’Bah with a combined total of 24.00 – including a near-perfect 9.67 first wave – and was well backed up by teammates Freya Prumm, Grace Styman-Lane, Amiya Doyle and Brodie Doyle.

The group broke into celebrations after wrapping up the title, with Prumm clearly ecstatic to see the team keep their domination rolling.

“It was epic to have another win in such a close final,” she said.

“The girls were dropping eights and nines everywhere and ripping hard in tricky conditions. Consistent surfing and sprinting up the sand for the tag is what gave us the nod with the bonus points being crucial when the final hooter sounded.”

“The D’Bah club treat us like rockstars and are always in it to have a good time so it was epic that we were able to take home the big cheque.”

Amiya Doyle is already looking forward to extending the club’s hold over the series into 2018.

“The D’Bah girls and I are very proud to have won back to back to back titles,” she said. “The other teams put up a massive fight and were absolutely ripping at North Narrabeen. We can’t wait for the next one.”

For North End, second was a more than respectable result given it was the first time the club had entered a women’s team in the competition.

Natural footer Sayaka Muramatsu was their star performer, registering the highest two-wave total in the final – a 26.43, made up of an 8.43 on her first wave followed by a 9.00 on her powerwave.

NSW Central Coast club North Shelly took out the men’s division.
