“In 2016, four of the 12 industry category winners of the Premier of Queensland’s Export awards were based on the Gold Coast, which is an indication of the capabiliti­es in regional Queensland,” she said.

These Aqualuma LED Lighting which won the Environmen­tal Solutions award, Burleigh-based bridal brand Grace Loves Lace which took out the E-Commerce gong, electric skateboard manufactur­ers Evolve Skateboard­s, Regional Exporter, and Surfers Paradiseba­sed Opmantek which was named Digital Technologi­es winner.

A line-up of industry experts and suppliers will be on hand at the event next week to provide expertise to Coast firms looking to export within ASEAN.

The free speed networking event will cover topics imperative to firms looking to export into South-East Asia including legal and tax issues, licensing and approvals, and navigating customs.

Trade and Investment Queensland’s Indonesian trade commission­er, Oka Simanjunta­k, will stream live from Jakarta to talk about cultural difference­s in working with Asian countries.

“We hope this event encourages those businesses flying under the radar to stand up and be recognised,” Ms Ward said.

It is being held on May 24 from 10am at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Broadwater Parklands, Southport.
