WITH recent events in UK and now in Australia it seems we should be doing something to protect ourselves from these maniacs instead of just mouthing platitudes like we need to be more vigilant.

Our leaders and politicians need to make the decision that in order to keep the majority safe we need to rid ourselves of these vermin.

All countries affected by terrorism, including Australia, should deport any one who is on a terror watch list and anyone who is known to have contact with a terrorist group.

Not only deport them but all of their extended families. We take back their government housing and give it to someone who will appreciate

it. We sell all their belongings and give the proceeds to the homeless and destitute.

We should send a message that we do not want you here if you cannot live the way we live and abide by our rules and we need the people in charge to have the guts to carry it through.

If those deported spend the rest of their lives in a detention centre somewhere then that is no concern of ours, it’s of their own choosing.

We should also suspend any further intake of refugees and immigrants from Middle Eastern and Muslim countries. I have nothing against those migrants who already live in our country and who have taken up our way of life.

The bleeding hearts need to get their heads out of the sand and realise we have to make a stand.

It might be against their “human rights” but what about those who have been killed and maimed? Where are their human rights now, and anyway, killers and terrorists don’t deserve such rights.

Already it has been shown that we are no longer safe in airports, cafes, bars, concerts, sporting events, even walking in the street.

If we take no action now then things will get much, much worse. J WEATHERALL

YOUR headline “Hospital losing patients” (GCB, 10/6) could have signalled an increase in the number of recovered patients.

After all, this is the aim of hospitalisation. But sadly no.

It meant Gold Coast hospitals were losing mentally ill patients, more so than other regions.

Just how does someone in secure facilities manage to escape?

Health Minister Cameron Dick must know something is seriously wrong if people are escaping.

That the minister focused on one positive to come out of a recent report shows how prepared he is to dodge the nasty stuff.

Mental health is a serious issue on the Coast and drastic measures need to be enacted. KEN JOHNSTON

WITH the current standard of ARL refereeing all betting should be stopped.

One would hope it’s incompetence to blame for the obvious mistakes of late – not something more sinister but when money is involved who would know?

The standing down of those making these errors does not help the punter get his money back.

I don’t know the answer but the present system does not work. ROD WATSON, MAIN BEACH
