4.5 billion litres of rain hits Coast

Rain has soaked the Gold Coast with 4.5-billion litres dumped into some catchments since the weekend. It’s thanks to a low pressure system just off the Glitter Strip. On Tuesday night the coastal strip got the heaviest fall, with more than 35mm at Coolangatt­a, and 33mm at Couran Point on South Stradbroke Island. Winds gusted up to 67km/h at the Seaway.

A group of stallholde­rs and classic car owners said they won’t return to the annual rock ‘n’ roll and vintage vehicles festival after the bad experience this year. Some want organiser Connecting Southern Gold Coast to pay refunds for axing trading on Sunday when it rained.

Cairns boat owner Will Coe was in for a rude shock when he went down to check on the vessel parked behind a warehouse in Earlville and realised the battery was missing. He scanned CCTV footage from a nearby camera which showed a man and woman going through it and stealing several items. Then things took a bizarre turn. The amorous couple climbed inside the six-metre vessel and proceeded to have sex inside the hull, all of which was captured on camera.

Con artist hits restaurant­s with trick

An eat-and-run scammer allegedly ripped off more than 20 restaurant­s for thousands of dollars with a sneaky trick that left businesses unable to make him pay up. Hungry customer Brett Barrey reportedly racked up bills as high as $470 at bars and eateries around Perth, before seemingly vanishing into thin air.
