Hayne to face tough task with Chambers

-

JARRYD Hayne expects a lot tougher challenge when he goes head to head with Will Chambers in Origin II instead of Justin O’Neill tonight.

Hayne had a field day as the Blues romped to a 28-4 triumph in the series opener, taking advantage of O’Neill’s defensive lapses.

The Maroons are expected to switch Chambers to his preferred right edge for the rematch at ANZ Stadium to partner Knights utility back Dane Gagai on the wing.

It’s a proposition he believes is much tougher than what he faced in Brisbane.

“He’s a great Hayne said.

“He’s a right centre as well, that’s his preferred position. From an out-and-out right centre he’s probably the best.

“He’s strong, he’s a good defender, a good reader of defence and can read the players real well.

“He gets involved, he’s got a real high work rate so he’s just a great player.

“He’s a lot tougher player than O’Neill as well so it’s just going to be a harder job going up against him.”

Hayne’s left-edge partner Brett Morris backed his teammate’s assessment of Storm star Chambers.

“Will is a world-class player and has been a great player for them in the past couple of series,” Morris said.

“It makes the job a lot harder. He is playing some good footy for his club. When he plays Origin he steps up.”

Hayne is looking to recreate his heroics of the 2014 series win. The Gold Coast marquee, who was left physically ill during the half-time break in his return to the Origin arena in Game One, is craving more success for the Blues.

He said winning an Origin series could not be underestimated in his list of career achievements. centre,”
