MAYORESS ON THE MEND
IT is a relief to hear Gold Coast Mayoress Ruth Tate seems to be on her way to recovery after suffering a major health scare.
A week after a heart attack just as she was about to board a plane while in Singapore, she remains overseas but has emerged from an induced coma.
Acting Mayor Donna Gates released a statement yesterday saying the wife of Mayor Tom Tate was “on her way to a full recovery” while another close to the situation has told the Bulletin the latest update on her condition was “very, very positive”.
The pair were on holiday, planning to embark on a cruise – and as is typical of the pair – they didn’t just have holidays on their mind. It was partly intended to research Mediterranean terminals to help inform the Mayor’s push for a cruise ship terminal back here.
The input and keen eye of the mayoress would have been important – she is described by those who know her well as not just highly intelligent but pragmatic and a key sounding board for some of her husband’s “big ideas”.
Hopefully, in future they will get the opportunity to revisit their cruise plans but for now the focus will be on her health and recuperating. The Bulletin wishes the Mayoress a speedy recovery and sends its sincere thoughts to Mayor Tom Tate and their family.
