WHETTING APPETITE
IF the weekend was even a small taste of what a Commonwealth Games might feel like then we’re in for a treat come April.
The Gold Coast Suns were triumphant at home for Gary Ablett’s 300th game; 25,000 people took part in races as part of the Gold Coast Airport Marathon; and in Brisbane an unheralded Queenslander beat one of the era’s greatest boxers to become WBO welterweight world champion.
And it seems all three events ran about as well as the organisers could have hoped.
South East Queensland has set a new benchmark in hosting major sporting events.
We’ll raise the bar again in 275 days.
