Pop-up site is a winner

- RYAN KEEN

A NEW pop-up retail space in Surfers Paradise is proving so popular the person behind the idea is scouting for other sites to do the same.

The Rebel Collective creative director Missy Robinson, who handles marketing for the Soul tower tenants, pitched the pop-up shop as a way to fill a vacant space on Soul Boardwalk.

She now has five brands, including four locally bornand-bred start-ups, which have signed up for the 93 square metre space.

Ms Robinson said the whole idea of dividing up the tenancy to multiple occupiers was to provide an affordable site for start-ups and local brands to get exposure in the heart of the Gold Coast.

“For most start-up companies there is no way they could get this sort of location,” she said.

“I have been getting applications

coming bucketload.

“It has become so successful and attracted so much interest I might have to open up another space.

“This is obviously something the Gold Coast needs and we need to support the local talent,” she said.

Most of the tenants had committed to six months with options to stay longer but Ms Robinson said new brands were also likely to set up at the site in the coming months.

Top Surfers rents can range from $3000 to $9000 a

the square metre a month or $1000 in areas off the main Cavill Avenue strip.

But a new Soul Boardwalk spot charges $1000 for a sixth of the 93 sqm store.

The pop-up site supply staff, point of sale technology and free Wi-Fi to encourage customers to linger,” Ms Robinson said,

“We are looking at having VIP nights, product launches, masterclasses, workshops and encourage the city’s local creatives to consider this end of the Coast.”

The brands signed up so far include Coast-based onesie brand Coco Kidz, Derks sunglasses and fashion labels Boo Deluxe and The Gypsy and the Officer.

Melbourne company Coral and Co, which is a plussized lounge wear clothing brand has also snared a space at the site.

The pop-up also includes lounge space, site, which a creative launches tomorrow.
