‘IT’S SURREAL’: COUPLE STUNNED BY NEW-FOUND FAME

- AMELIA SAW

LIFE will never be the same for House Rules 2017 winners, Aaron and Daniella Winter.

After taking home the $200,000 prize on Sunday night, the Gold Coast couple are still reeling.

“It’s very surreal,” said Aaron, 31. “To think we’ve got another 200,000 reasons to be a bit happier, it’s unreal.” Daniella, 38, is also still struggling to comprehend the news her sleepless nights and emotional strain paid off – in the best possible way.

“Even at two o’clock this morning, I woke Aaron up and said, ‘Do you know we’ve just won!’” Daniella said.

The couple were yesterday stopped for dozens of selfies as they visited their local coffee shop.

“Selfies seem to be happening by the thousand,” said Aaron. “Everywhere we go there’s people stopping us wanting to share their stories. At the coffee shop people were running over saying you guys are amazing.”

The Winters won the grand final over their South Australian ‘besties’ Kate Whiting and James ‘Harry’ Harris, but said it “wasn’t awkward” when it was announced they’d be taking home the money instead of their friends, who graciously accepted defeat.

“That’s a credit to Kate and Harry, and if it had have been the other way around we would have been the same,” said Aaron.

“We’re going to get Kate and Harry to come to the Gold Coast,” Daniella chimed in, excitedly.

“We want to fly them up here and give them a great week.”

Both Aaron and Daniella’s parents, who made the couple’s win possible by caring for their newborn baby Brooklyn and toddler Jackson for the duration of the seven-month competition, were also overjoyed.

“My mum was crying from when she landed at (Sydney) airport – she was just so excited,” said Aaron.

“We’ve got a very overly excited family, it’s lovely.”
