COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS

-

WINNERS

The Steven O’Dea-trained filly Francisca was crunched from $3.80 in to $2.65 and all the action happened in the last 10 minutes of betting. The 2YO got squeezed early and when she finally got in to the clear, she was far too good.

The John Smerdon-trained filly Regnant drifted alarmingly from $2.20 out to $3.60. She settled on the fence where commandeering tried to keep her in a pocket. When she balanced up, she defied the drift and showed an explosive turn of foot.

LOSERS

Shuda Known Better was a solid $2.80 favourite. The Brian Smith-trained filly jumped well and got caught in a speed battle early and finished a disappointing seventh.

NEXT TIME

Takarakka was a good thing beaten in race 3. The Heathcote-trained gelding’s price plummeted from $7.50 to $3.60. He found himself too far back off a slow tempo but somehow managed to make up ground, only to get held up. Be sure to follow him. Batten was met with plenty of punter support and shortened from $5.75 in to $4.00. Punters’ tickets were confetti as soon as you saw the 2YO pig-rooting at the start. This filly deserves another chance.
