SOMERSET College will host its inaugural entrepreneurial festival in October.

The Somerset Celebration of Entrepreneurship will offer visitors the chance to meet and be inspired by Queensland’s brightest entrepreneurs.

Festival chairman Dane Oman said the two-day event was coming at the perfect time for the Gold Coast community.

“It’s an exciting time for Gold Coast entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners, and we are fortunate to be able to host an event that will attract brilliant entrepreneurial minds to our college,” Mr Oman said.

“We are pleased to receive support from the Department of Science, Information Technology and Innovation, and Advance Queensland this year and look forward to the continued growth of the festival over the coming years.”

Coast-based Queensland Chief Entrepreneur Mark Sowerby and renowned tech entrepreneur and investor Steve Baxter from Shark Tank will lend their support to the event.

“Entrepreneurship is a real career path,” Mr Sowerby said.

“For school kids today, it will be all about creating their own jobs.

“It’s great to see schools getting on board teaching entrepreneurial skills.

“We need kids who can play business for Australia.”

The festival will deliver a range of events including Bond University’s turbo-charged extension course in entrepreneurship and workshop sessions.

Tickets to the Somerset Celebration of Entrepreneurship are free and open to the public.

Registrations open soon for the event, to be held on Tuesday, October 10, and Wednesday, October 11.
