I READ that NRL referee Henry “The Whistle” Perenara is to officiate in Saturday’s Cowboys vs Warriors game.

Expect a slow game constantly interrupted by stoppages and a massive penalty count against Cowboys. A flowing game is a good game but Henry would rather just keep on blowing his whistle. LUCKY, GOLD COAST WHY are poor Muslim girls forced to wear the hijab at school?

Our summers are hot, so it’s wrong to make them cover their heads in such temperatures.

They suffer, because they have the temerity to display their hair.

I can understand if Muslim women wore immodest clothing in public … but hair?

Most Muslim men wear beards, which is hair – double standards.

The sooner someone bans the hijab and burqa here in this Christian country, the better.

Muslims, take note, you are living in Australia. Respect our way of life because, as sure as eggs, your countries will not respect ours. HM MORGAN, GOLD COAST I REFER to the case of a police officer being penalised for stopping a criminal’s vehicle during pursuit.

The method he used is known worldwide as the PIT manoeuvre and is used in many countries.

It consists of a rear corner nudge in order to swing the pursued vehicle around in a circle, bringing it to a standstill, and is an effective and safe procedure.

In most countries, the pursuing officer makes the decision whether to terminate the pursuit, and certainly not a desk-bound person who cannot assess the situation.

I lament that we have had a succession of out-of-touch deskbound police commissioners who refuse to give rank and file police the best equipment and techniques. DR GRAHAM SAYER, GOLD COAST A NEW study has found there are four things we, as individuals, can do to combat climate change: have less (or no) children, ditch our cars, avoid air travel and move to a plant-based diet.

The report says other tactics such as recycling, using your own shopping bags, changing your light bulbs to energy efficient varieties and doing your laundry in cold water garnered almost tokenistic results by comparison.

Now most of us only have one or two children, we might buy a car every few years, and fly a few times a year. But we make decisions on our eating habits three times a day.

According to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, it takes up to 10kg of grain to produce just 1kg of meat, while more than 90 per cent of all Amazon rainforest land cleared since 1970 is being used for grazing livestock.

The Worldwatch Institute reports that at least 51 per cent of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture.

Try going veg for your next meal. There’s plenty of support on the PETA website.

You’ll not only reduce your carbon footprint but you’ll improve your health and help save animals. DESMOND BELLAMY, GOLD COAST
