PREVIEW OF STRUMMING ATTRACTIONS AT CREEK
MORE than 300 performers will drop their hats and suitcases in Winders Park Currumbin in October for the fourth Buskers by the Creek weekend.
The popular southern Gold Coast picnic spot will be positively humming on October 14-15 as an all-sorts mix of novices and seasoned pros, from musicians to magicians, sing and dance, juggle and sway to keep a crowd of thousands entertained from 10am to 6pm each day.
Organisers say last year’s buskathon drew 25,000 people across two days.
Festival founder and director Cindy Jensen has released a rollcall of the first 100 buskers heading up the creek this year.
The list includes loads of young local talents from Brisbane finger-style guitarist Van Larkins to Byron Bay country-kissed vocalist and guitarist Nicole Brophy and frenetic Gold Coast blues rocker Phil Barlow.
They’ll be joined by James Bennett, Nina, Aine Tyrell, Liv Heyer, Blue Skillet Rovers and Canadian folk rocker Tennyson King – with more acts to come.
“Today is about the musicians, with our next announcement bringing you the weird, wacky and downright amazing entertainers who will dish up jaw-dropping tricks, daring world record attempts and more waterborne magic,” Ms Jensen said.
The busking talents assembled so far for the 2017 event already run the gamut – from swing dancing to blazing banjo, sword swallowing and performance art.
Live artists will open their easels and settle in to paint, local restaurants will plate up an international menu and the Karma Kids will keep things fun for young ones with music and circus workshops, activities and crafts.
