Ebden wins, into quarters
AUSSIE qualifier Matthew Ebden upset sixth seed Lukas Lacko to reach the quarter-finals of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships in Newport.
The world No.249 defeated Lacko 6-1, 7-6 (7-2) to book a final-eight clash with Germany’s Tobias Kamke.
Ebden, 29, was clinical on serve and broke Lacko twice in the first set before overwhelming the Slovak in the second-set tiebreak.
Sam Groth was beaten by top seed John Isner, proving no match for the US world No.21, going down 6-2, 6-4.
