CONTEST HAS WHALE OF A PRIZE

-

THE search is on for the Gold Coast’s first ever Spirit Young Whale Warrior.

Launched by Spirit of Gold Coast Whale Watching, the contest is open to Gold Coast students in Years 3 to 6 and includes a series of educational talks in schools by marine biologist Zara King.

The aim is to engage local children and encourage a love for one of the world’s biggest and most majestic mammals.

Michele Del-Bianco of Spirit of Gold Coast Whale Watching said the search aimed to foster and promote the Gold Coast’s next generation of marine-life guardianship and conservation.

“On the Gold Coast we are privileged to have Australia’s ‘humpback highway’ at our doorstep and we feel it’s our responsibility to create chances for youngsters to connect with this natural phenomenon,” Ms Del-Bianco said.

“As longstanding operators in the Gold Coast whale watching industry, we believe it’s important to encourage budding environmentalists, marine biologists and activists to turn their passion into action.

“We are looking for a local youngster who is fascinated by whales and dedicated to their conservation and protection.

“The winner, and his or her family, will get to spend as much time as they want on Spirit of Gold Coast this season, including a day alongside our on-board marine biologist.”

Children vying for the title should submit a drawing, video or written piece that shows their love and passion for the gentle giants of the ocean.

The winner will receive a family season pass for Spirit of Gold Coast, along with a prize pack including T-shirt, hat and the ultimate day out on the boat with Zara King.
