THE Bulletin (24/7) had an article announcing Queenslanders want 10 more bridges built in Brisbane.

Shouldn’t that read “Brisbane residents want”?

The survey attracted 46,000 responses. I question whether anyone out of Brisbane responded or were canvassed. No doubt our Brisbane State Government will react to the “wishes of the people”. GEOFF REEVE, GOLD COAST I WISH to comment on the parking for residents in the Peters Drive and surrounding side streets.

We have had seven months of this and we can’t park outside our own homes. The workmen I have spoken to say the casino will not let

them park in the casino. Why should we cop it? They were given a park on the corner to use. The casino has more highrise buildings in the pipeline, so this is not going away anytime soon.

Barcardi Court near Pacific Fair was made into two-hour parking because of exactly the same problem not long ago. They quickly fixed that when residents complained. The council is useless. JOHN, GOLD COAST THE inimitable Councillor Dawn Crichlow is now advocating that application fees for sex shops and brothels on the Gold Coast be increased significantly to discourage their existence (GCB, 24/4).

Dawn, I don’t think desperate seekers of sexual gratification will be concerned if establishments raise fees to cover new costs.

I hardly get the impression there are sex shops “on every corner” but it might be advisable if such places do not occupy frontages on main roads and highways.

What goes on in say, massage parlours, should not concern Cr Crichlow. Better Dawn to have “let-off steam” establishments rather than have some men seek satisfaction illegally in other areas. KEN JOHNSTON US PRESIDENT Trump is certainly one of a kind.

He doesn’t seem to know how government functions, he is pathetically thin-skinned over the criticism he attracts, and now there are numerous probes into what extent he and his family may have engaged Russia in the 2016 election.

In his latest series of tweets, he says he not only intends to pardon his family, but also himself if the probes are negative and could lead to his impeachment and removal from office. As the leader of the free world with war-making powers, in a time of great turmoil, he is causing great anxiety.

He has no power to pardon himself. That goes against all understood tenets of accountability. DAVID HALL CAMPBELL Brown (Spiritual Healing, GCB, 19/7) is so right.

The worst thing the Suns did was enlist Gary Ablett. He is a brilliant footballer but with him in the team the young draftees progress is overshadowed.

Team work doesn’t exist. It’s more a case of “where’s Gazza?”

This creates individuals trying to get the ball and doing their own thing. Team play wins games and premierships. Not selfish play. SS, GOLD COAST
