Rear Admiral Mike Noonan is a principal warfare officer and air direction specialist, and assumed the position of Deputy Chief of Navy in January 2016.
His previous positions include: Commander Maritime Border Command, where he led the command’s transition into the newly formed Australian Border Force; Commodore Training, where he was responsible for all individual and collective training across the navy; Director General Operations in Headquarters Joint Operations Command, where he was responsible for the control and oversight of all operations and joint exercises involving the ADF; Director Military Strategic Commitments; Director of Sailors’ Career Management.
Rear Admiral Noonan also commanded HMAS Parramatta from her commissioning in 2003 to 2005.
He was awarded Commendations for Distinguished Service for his role in operations in the Middle East in 2003 and 2009, and was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in June 2012.
