Peter’s doing a lot Wright, just not marking

GOLD Coast forward coach Ashley Prescott has called on young forward Peter Wright to simplify parts of his game in a bid to arrest the marking problem that is costing him and the Suns precious goals.

Wright has kicked 24 goals this year and is on track to im- prove on last season’s tally of 27 due to his pinpoint kicking.

But the 20-year-old has struggled throughout the early stages of his career with marking, hindering him from making a bigger scoreboard impact.

It was evident in Saturday’s loss to Richmond and led Suns coach Rodney Eade to voice his frustration, saying it came down to Wright’s technique.

Suns assistant Prescott said Wright continued to work on the weakness that is hurting otherwise strong form.

“Pete has been doing a lot right,” Prescott said.

“He will acknowledge that he has been dropping some marks that he should be taking and he is working exceptionally hard at that.

“He is playing a duel role, he is playing in the ruck and also playing forward and we will continue to develop him in those types of positions.”

Prescott said simplifying the action would help Wright.

“He just needs to keep his eye on the ball and watch it right into his hands,” he said.

“He can overcomplicate things so he just needs to get back to the basics.” Prescott said he was expecting both Gary Ablett and Steven May to be available for selection.

But Ben Ainsworth (knee) is facing multiple weeks on the sideline and doubt surrounds Callum Ah Chee (concussion), Alex Sexton (concussion), ruckman Jarrod Witts (foot) and Brayden Fiorini (hamstring) ahead of Saturday’s Round 20 trip to Fremantle.
