SOFTWARE ACE AIMS FOR ROYAL APPROVAL

- ALISTER THOMSON alister.thomson@news.com.au

A GOLD Coast software developer is hoping a device designed to take the hassle out of uploading invoices will gain the royal assent when he pitches it to Prince Andrew next month.

Dr Bjoern Krollner, who holds a doctorate in computational finance from Bond University, will take part in the first Pitch@Palace Australia competition next month.

Applicants will get the chance to pitch their ideas directly to the prince at the Australian leg of the global startup competition and connect to potential investors.

The Duke of York will choose the best entrepreneurs from the Queensland and Northern Territory regional heat, to be hosted at Bond University on September 22, to present their ideas at the national final later in the year.

The Australian champion will fly to London for the global final at St James’s Palace.

Dr Krollner said he started to develop his Scan2Invoice software three years ago, after working at his wife’s dental practice in Miami as practice manager.

“What I ended up doing was sitting down and manually entering the information for invoices into bookkeeping software,” he said. “I thought there must be a better way.”

Dr Krollner created software that can be used to scan invoices, convert the image into a PDF file, and automatically extract the key data so it can be reviewed.
