Musk warns world about danger of AI

Elon Musk has delivered a warning to the world hours after flying halfway around it to work on his relationsh­ip with Gold Coast-based star Amber Heard. A day after the SpaceX founder’s whirlwind trip to see Heard, he tweeted we should all be far more worried about Artificial Intelligen­ce (AI) developmen­t than tensions with North Korea. “If you are not concerned about AI safety, you should be. Vastly more risk than North Korea,” he tweeted his 11.3 million followers.

Census provides Gold Coast snapshot

A snapshot of data from the 2016 Census shows the Gold Coast is home to more than 500,000 residents. The median weekly household income here is $1404 with an average of 2.6 people per household. The statistics also confirm the Gold Coast as a prime tourist location, with 17,000 people counted on Census night being overseas visitors.

Little Scarlett’s wait list nightmare

A 20-month public health bungle has resulted in little Scarlett Godden’s parents having to urgently fundraise to pay for surgery to preserve her sight. Having been referred to Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital for an appointmen­t almost two years ago, the family was this week shattered to learn the five-year-old was never placed on a waiting list.

‘Drop Hayne to reserve grade’

Former Origin forward and Gold Coast player Kevin Campion has called on Neil Henry to drop Jarryd Hayne to reserve grade for the rest of the season, calling the superstar “uncoachabl­e”. Hayne and Henry are being called into crisis meetings with club bosses to discuss their relationsh­ip, described in a club press release as a “demoralisi­ng” distractio­n to the playing group, members, sponsors and supporters.
