Former NRL coach warns of dangerous precedent in Titans’ Neil Henry saga

- LAINE CLARK

A NEW Gold Coast coach won’t change boom Brisbane forward Jai Arrow’s decision to move to the Titans next NRL season.

Former Junior Kangaroo Arrow, 22, said he had no regrets about his decision to sign a three-year Titans deal from 2018 despite uncertainty hanging over the man who helped lure him to the NRL club – Gold Coast coach Neil Henry. The Titans mentor’s days are reportedly numbered after the Gold Coast board met on Monday to discuss his troubled relationship with superstar Jarryd Hayne.

It appears unlikely both Henry and Hayne can remain beyond this season.

Brisbane reserve forward Arrow said Henry helped convince him to leave the club he first signed with aged 13 and link with the Titans, where he is tipped to be lock.

“I have met with Neil once. He seemed like a good guy. He said all the right things to me (before signing),” Arrow said.

Arrow said he would still jump at the chance to earn a regular NRL start at the Titans even if it meant playing under a different coach.

“There’s no regrets. I will let the Titans take care of that then I will go down there next year and do my best,” Arrow said.

“They have had an upand-down season but at times they have played some great footy. I am looking forward to getting down there.

“But I still want to perform strongly for the Broncos until the end of the year.”

Arrow linked with the Titans after his hopes of nailing down a starting back-row spot were dashed by reports Brisbane recruit Jack Bird would be lock next season.
