Daycare centres closed

DODGY family daycare centres approved by the Palaszczuk Government have been forced to close after Commonwealth compliance checks uncovered disturbing findings.

Parents have been left shocked after the Turnbull Government suspended or cancelled 15 family daycare services in Queensland in the past financial year.

About one in five had been assessed and rated by the State Government.

Cases against centres are still being finalised and some that have had their approvals suspended now face cancellation. In one case, a family day care centre in South East Queensland allegedly charged taxpayers for 350 suspicious sessions of care.

It was called into question when compliance checks revealed the educator was overseas, had given birth and a child also received care at another service on the same day.

The operator’s approval was cancelled.

At the time, the operator had been rated by the Queensland Government as “working towards”, the second worst rating under the National Quality Framework.

Education Minister Simon Birmingham said he was “shocked at the carelessness” of the Palaszczuk Government.

“The Palaszczuk Government are letting rorters and shonks look after Queensland children and they’re opening up the childcare system to abuse,” Senator Birmingham said.
