Suns have all the tools to kit out Ben’s game

- TOM BOSWELL

RISING Star nominee Ben Ainsworth believes the Suns have the talent and resources that will enable him to become the best footballer he can be.

At No.4, Ainsworth headlined a group of four top 10 draftees taken by the Suns last year and has become the big- gest new talent at the club.

The 19-year-old has averaged 11.7 disposals and 1.2 goals from 12 games in his debut year that included 10 weeks on the sideline with a bad quad cork.

Ainsworth would have attracted huge interest from rival clubs in his initial years if not already locked in until 2020, alongside fellow draftees Will Brodie, Jack Scrimshaw and Jack Bowes. But the Victorian product said the club had everything he needed.

“We have got great resources around here,” he said.

“We have obviously got the new facility and the people that are around the club are going to lead us to success.

“We have got great young talent coming through as well.”

The Victorian product has been revered for his skills and nous for goal but even more so for a fierce competitive nature.

Ainsworth has been forced to overcome multiple injuries in his young career already.

That’s why he was left shattered to hear former underage Gippsland Power teammate Sam Skinner had suffered a third ACL injury while playing for the Lions NEAFL side against GWS on the weekend.

Ainsworth has already reached out to Skinner.

“I was shattered. He is a determined character and resilient as well so he will get through it and he’ll come back better and stronger,” he said.
