Cops probe possible bikie links to stabbing
POLICE are investigating possible bikie links to a stabbing incident at a Gold Coast canal estate.
Detectives began questioning three men after a man was stabbed following an argument about 1am yesterday at Tequila Court in Mermaid Waters.
A police spokesman said a 28-year-old man was later transported to hospital with wounds to his arms and torso.
A source told the Bulletin: “There was a fight.
“A bloke gets a touched up, then that bloke got his mates to come back and there was a stabbing.
“They (the bikies) are still active around the place.”
Police allege that an argument occurred between two men at the Tequila Court address about 1.15am leading to the 28-year-old Mermaid Waters man being wounded.
Police later visited a Burleigh Heads unit where a 28year-old man was taken into custody.
Matt Lewis, from Burleigh Heads, was subsequently charged with one count of acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police yesterday alleged Lewis had bikie friends. He had stitches under one eye when he appeared for a brief mention at the Southport Magistrate’s Court.
Lewis did not seek bail, was ordered to undergo forensic testing before Magistrate Gary Finger adjourned the case until September 4. Sources said one man had escaped after booking an Uber ride while the other went to Robina Hospital to be treated for knife wounds.
Police said investigations were continuing and detectives late yesterday appealed for witnesses in the suburb around 1am yesterday to contact police.
