‘I RODE MY PET DONKEY DOWN THE AISLE’

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND

A DONKEY, a rooster, two chickens, a lizard and a dog walk into a barn.

No, this isn’t the start to a bad joke.

It’s the start to a happily ever after.

Earlier this month Melanie and Joseph Teefy married at their Gaven home, complete with their extended four-legged family.

“It just made sense to include them,” Ms Teefy said.

“It just was always going to be that way, I’ve loved animals since I was a little girl. It was the plan from the get go.”

The pair’s Border Collie Ava, was the flower girl, while Ms Teefy rode Billybob the donkey down the aisle.

Bearded Dragon, Spyke, was the ring bearer and Ms Teefy’s three bridesmaids carried Gaston the rooster and Mrs Potts and Luna the chickens as their ‘bouquets.’

She said it didn’t take too much effort to get the animals ready for the big day.

“They just had a bath,” Ms Teefy said.

“Joseph was training Ava for a few weeks before, so they were pretty ready.”

And while Ms Teefy said the day turned out “perfect”, there were some pre-wedding jitters.

But not for the usual reasons.

“The dress was slippery, I had to wing it,” Ms Teefy said of riding Billybob in her wedding dress, sidesaddle.

“I was scared of falling off him. I didn’t want to get the dress dirty.”
