SPRING-BOARD INTO HOT AND HUMID WEATHER
BIKINIS one day, brollies the next.
That’s the fashion forecast for the three months of spring which start today.
The Bureau of Meteorology expects a warmer than average season with above average rainfall.
It is welcome news for gardeners after our driest winter since 2004.
According to Weatherzone meteorologist Joel Pippard, just 149.8mm of rain fell over winter compared to the average of 240.6mm.
Mr Pippard said this was due to the lack of winter storms.
“Not having an east coast low pressure system pass by was probably responsible – that’s where a lot of winter rainfall generally comes from,” Mr Pippard said.
“It has been on the drier side – but it’s nothing unusual.”
Mr Pippard said there was an increased chance of storms in September and October which could lead to above average rainfall in parts of South East Queensland.
For the weekend Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Richard Wardle said the Gold Coast should expect sunny conditions and 26C temperatures.
“If you like blue skies you’re all set,” Mr Wardle said. “Spring is absolutely off to a great start.”
