GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS
WINNERS Warface (Race 1)
Punters jumped on Warface at $4.75 (after deductions) shortening him in to $2.30 by the jump. It didn’t look good early in the straight as the Les Kelly-trained 3YO looked hardridden. But he soon knuckled down to the task and shot away for a convincing win.
Freddy Fox Trot (Race 7)
This was just the third start for the promising Les Kelly-trained 3YO who looks to be the real deal. He cantered up to them in the straight, won impressively going away and I think he will win plenty more races.
Beraht (Race 2)
Despite the incredible drift from $4 to $5.25, Beraht’s win was outstanding. The Stuart Kendrick-trained 3YO certainly had his mind on the job after being gelded. He did it all from start to finish, as he jumped well, led and pulled away for a soft win.
LOSERS
Maharni (Race 1)
The Michael Nolan-trained Maharni started a very short $1.80 favourite but punters couldn’t come into that, so he blew out to $3.20. It was a disappointing watch as he couldn’t go early, settled at the rear and finished fifth in a sixth horse field.
Happy Hooves (Race 7)
The Tony Gollan-trained Happy Hooves had a terrible case of the blows, drifting from $2.60 to $4.60 and he ran accordingly. Apprentice Zoe White was keen to lead on him but then he started over-racing. The 4YO had nothing left to offer in the straight and finished a disappointing seventh.
NEXT TIME Felino Bel (Race 6)
The Bryan and Daniel Guy-trained filly Felino Bel drifted significantly in betting from $3.70 to $5. However, the 3YO filly had no luck and it was a great run. She was wide at the back and got pushed even wider without cover but still made ground in the straight to finish fourth.
Kickstart My Heart (Race 5)
The top three finishers in Race 5 all had dream runs but Kickstart My Heart was not so lucky. He got caught in an early speed battle with another runner but stuck on superbly in the straight. His run was much better than it looks on paper.
