Plastic bags banned in Queensland

Single use plastic bags will be banned after State Parliament passed new laws on Tuesday. Included in the laws, most drink containers from 150ml to three litres will be eligible for a 10-cent refund when returned to a container refund point. The ban on single use plastic bags will come into effect on July 1, 2018.

Fatality as ecstasy explodes in stomach

A law student had five bags of ecstasy inside her stomach when she was found dead on holiday in Ibiza, an inquest heard. Rebecca Brock, 18, was discovered with a pool of blood next to her head in a hotel room on September 28, 2015, after travelling to the party island for a friend’s birthday. A police probe was launched because the amount of the drug in her system was “double the level” of a normal fatal dose.

‘The bed was used as a toilet’

A Parisian woman has posted shocking before-and-after photos on Facebook after an Airbnb guest left her “charming” studio apartment covered in excrement and urine. The woman, Laurie S, is battling the homesharin­g platform to pay for the €10,000 ($15,000) damage bill after a Canadian man rented out her 13sq m apartment for three weeks in August.

Teenager killed by faulty shower

A teen was electrocut­ed by a faulty shower just hours before her boyfriend planned to propose on their romantic holiday. Viktoria Stronskaya, 18, was killed while holidaying in the Russian village of Loo. She had been whisked away by her boyfriend Pavel Kniazkov, 23, who was planning to ask her to marry him. But tragedy struck when she went to take a shower one evening and was killed by electric shocks caused by an alleged boiler malfunctio­n.
