BEER WITH A COOL TWIST

With warm days on the way, this refreshing cross between beer and lemonade may just win you over

-

THE heat is on and searching for a thirst quencher is a very popular pastime around this neck of the woods.

While beer usually does the trick, the challenge is choosing one.

This week I will go outside the box (or carton) and suggest an alternative – Pacific Radler.

Now for those unfamiliar with radlers, they are beers with a blend of lemon (in most cases essence) just to give it a twist.

The result is a little like a shandy – beer and lemonade ( just like granny used to give us as kids). While you may be thinking I have spent too much time out in the sun, it’s worth giving this a try.

Radlers aren’t new; they are popular in the summer months in Europe, but haven’t made much of an impact on the Aussie market.

Pacific Radler certainly fills the thirst-quencher brief.

It’s very easy to drink and at two per cent provides a viable alternative to other light beers on the market – this one has flavour!

You could certainly smash a few down without getting bored with the brew as you do with so many light beers on the market. However, it does get to be a little sweet after about a six pack.

It is a very social drink and I suspect it could be a big hit with women looking for a drink with flavour, that’s refreshing, not

high in alcohol and light in the stomach. It would be at home at a barbie, a party or any occasion where you have to be responsible.

I suggest downing a couple to wet the whistle before moving on to something more substantial.

This is an ideal drink to have with fish and chips or any deepfried seafood. It’s not for beer purists, but it is a worthy alternative to light beer.
