WINNERS

■ Capetown Hussey (Race 9, $12.50)

It’s not the first time Brad Stewart has given Capetown Hussey a great ride. Punters took the $15 and he started $12.50. It was an excellent effort from barrier 13 to slot in back on the rail. He stealthily improved his position, popped off the fence and won going away.

■ Torgersen (Race 4, $6)

Punters shied away from the $4.80 offered about Torgersen and the fiveyear-old drifted to $6. Never mind the drift, it was an impressive effort to run down the odds-on favourite.

LOSERS

■ Dreams Aplenty (Race 4, $1.67)

It was heart-stopping stuff for odds-on punters when Dreams Aplenty got rolled and one punter outlaid a whopping $4400 at $1.72. The fouryear-old led and looked home coming around the corner but got run down in the straight.

■ Kim’s Tarzan (Race 6, $3.25)

The popular Les Kelly-trained Kim’s Tarzan was bitterly disappointing for punters, especially for one who placed $2000 on at $3.80. The three-year-old didn’t go forward as expected, was never a winning proposition and finished last in the field of nine.

NEXT TIME

■ Monteux (Race 5, $4.80)

Monteux was having his first start at the 2200m and punters launched at the $10 and he started $4.80. It was a tough watch as he ran into a plethora of dead ends, couldn’t get any clear galloping room and went to the line largely untested. Follow.

■ Mercurian (Race 8, $17)

It was a huge run from the roughie Mercurian. The six-year-old was backed from $21 in to $17 but from the tricky barrier found himself three deep without cover. Despite the tough run, he somehow managed to stick on well for third.
