Signs are promising for Tedder

- ANDREW POTTS

A NEW sign welcoming people to Tedder Ave is on the agenda as part of a push to bring the once-popular Main Beach dining strip back to life.

The sign would be installed in the central median strip of the Gold Coast Hwy to direct passing drivers to visit the street, which was once one of the city’s most popular eating precincts.

It is one of several small amenities projects which are under investigation by the Gold Coast City Council.

They include new paving for the corner of Peak and Tedder avenues to improve pedestrian access, and a new path in the Ted Dolby Place park.

The projects will be partially funded by $25,000 the council had initially planned to spend on the area’s Christmas carols in the street.

However, the funding was pulled and the event cancelled after council officers determined it was not feasible to spend the cash on an event which was last year attended by just 200 people.

Area councillor Gary Baildon said the proposed changes were the result of a study into Main Beach which was conducted earlier this year.

“Right now we are examining the idea of a sign indicating Tedder Ave from the Gold Coast Hwy which would go on the nature strip,” he said.

“It is early days on that at the moment but we are also looking at a path for the park which is difficult to get through.”
