Sally sets busy schedule
SALLY Pearson will compete at the world indoor championships just weeks out from the Commonwealth Games, confident she has the time to commit to the Birmingham event.
Pearson will race the national titles at the new Commonwealth Games track at Metricon Stadium in February heading to England for the world indoor championships less than a fortnight later.
“Most of my preparation will be done in Australia this (season),” said Pearson, who was speaking at a Griffith University health and physical education summit at The Star.
“We have the world indoor championships in March which is in Birmingham, so I’d like to be going to that as well.
“That’s six weeks before I race at the Commonwealth Games, so there’s plenty of time to do both.”
It’s part of a heavy competition schedule the world and Olympic champion hopes can deliver a defining win at a home games next April.
“I’m definitely pencilling in a lot of competition,” Pearson said of her summer schedule.
“It’s a very tight schedule this year. Our Australian season usually goes from January to April and now it’s the Australian season all rolled into the Commonwealth Games as well, so it’s going to be very tight but something I’m really looking forward to.
“The preparation’s going really well and I’m looking forward to seeing what I can achieve next year.”
As always, Pearson will be a great supporter of the domestic season and is likely to start hurdling at the Perth Track Classic in January.
“I think I’m going to have to start (hurdling) earlier than I originally thought but at this stage there’s nothing confirmed,” she said.
“Probably the second week of January but at the same time, it seems like it’s so close. I just want to get this block of training done before I decide on what I want to do.”
Pearson manages her own program after taking over coaching duties last year – a move that proved successful after she returned from injury to win a world title.
She confirmed she would race over the hurdles only on the Gold Coast, bypassing the flat sprint despite being first over the line at the Delhi Games in 2010 before being disqualified for a false start.
