Child porn arrest
LOS ANGELES: A brother of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock has been arrested on suspicion of possessing child pornography. Bruce Douglas Paddock, 59, was nabbed at an assisted living centre in North Hollywood, California on Wednesday morning local time. A criminal complaint filed in Los Angeles County lists 20 potential counts and indicates the alleged crimes occurred in 2014, NBC News reports. One of the counts is for possession of more than 600 images of children in porn.
Landslide kills kids
MEXICO CITY: A mudslide buried a home in Mexico’s southern state of Chiapas early Wednesday, killing five children from the same family, authorities said. Two girls and three boys between the ages of 3 and 11 died in the community of Tzajalho, which is in the Larrainzar municipality, said Victor Amezcua, spokesman for the state Civil Defence. He said the five children were sleeping in one room of the wooden home. Their parents, who were rescued, were sleeping in another. The landslide was blamed on heavy rain.
Pollie hurt in blast
KIEV: An explosion in Kiev has killed one man and wounded three others including Ukrainian MP Ihor Mosiychuk, an Interior Ministry official said in a post on Facebook. Ministry adviser Zoryan Shkiryak said investigators were at the scene of the incident, where it appeared a motorcycle had been blown up near the entrance to a TV station. A man in his 30s was reportedly killed in the blast. Mr Mosiychuk, a member of the opposition, nationalist Radical party, did not suffer lifethreatening injuries, his press service said. The motive of the attack is not known.

JOHANNESBURG: Scientists have discovered the first evidence that a huge carnivorous dinosaur roamed southern Africa 200 million years ago. Several three-toed footprints left by the two-legged “megatheropod”were found the kingdom of Lesotho. Experts calculated that the fearsome creature would have been about 9m long and stood almost 3m tall at the hip.
Farewell to king
BANGKOK: More than 100,000 Thais gathered in Bangkok to witness a colourful procession as part of the elaborate five-day cremation ceremony for the late king. A symbolic cremation attended by 7000 guests, including Australia’s GovernorGeneral Peter Cosgrove, was held yesterday ahead of the actual cremation last night. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the world’s longest reigning monarch, died last October aged 88.
