Arrests for meth, knife beside M1

-

TWO people who allegedly fled police in an attempt to conceal methamphetamines will face a Tweed Heads court today.

A 31-year-old man, who refused to stop his vehicle south of the border and allegedly resisted officers yesterday, had to be capsicum sprayed before being arrested.

He was charged with supplying a prohibited drug, possessing a prohibited drug, resisting arrest, having of knife in a public place and having goods in custody.

The man was charged after Tweed Heads police spotted a silver Subaru on Ducat St Tweed Heads, speeding towards the M1.

A short time later, the officers found the Subaru in a breakdown lane but when they approached the car, the driver allegedly drove off slowly.

The officers were able to approach the driver’s side window and smashed it with a baton in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

When the car came to a stop, the driver allegedly threw an object over his head into long grass behind a fence.

Police allegedly found methamphetamine, cannabis, a 25cm knife, cash and other items suspected of being stolen in the car.

A small bag containing methamphetamine, clear resealable plastic bags and scales was found in long grass nearby.

An 18-year-old woman in the car was also arrested.

She was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and having goods in custody.

Both were refused bail.
