TROUBLE RAMPS UP ON M1

- AMANDA ROBBEMOND amanda.robbemond@news.com.au

MELISSA Crowden is frustrated with the M1 on and off-ramps close to her children’s Coomera school.

The Pacific Pines mother-of-two and teacher says using the on and off-ramps when trying to pick up her son and daughter from Assisi Catholic College in the afternoons is a nightmare.

And while upgrades have happened in the area which meant better flow in the mornings, the same couldn’t be said for pick ups.

“Going home is an extra 20 minutes (every day),” she said.

“It’s frustrating and also for people getting on the highway, they’re not letting you in so it takes longer.”

Ms Crowden said people seemed to be more and more frustrated with the traffic delays in the area, which equalled less courtesy on the roads.

Foxwell Road on-ramp heading southbound past Dreamworld at Exit 54 was especially clogged with motorists in the afternoons, she said.

Ms Crowden said she usually ended up taking an alternative route through Highland Reserve to get back to Pacific Pines, but using the back roads meant more wear and tear on her car’s tyres. She said recent changes to trucks hugging the left hand lane have also exacerbated on and off-ramp problems.

“I don’t think it’s helping matters,” she said.

“They’re sitting there and you’re trying to exit.”
