CASH TO BURN

Titans loom as major player in NRL market if Jarryd Hayne walks away from his $1.2m deal

- Reports by Emma Greenwood

THE Titans have no plans to call crisis meetings with marquee man Jarryd Hayne, saying there is no reason to seek clarification from a player that is contracted for next season.

The club was blindsided by news Hayne wants out of the Gold Coast just months after it moved heaven and earth to appease the star.

Hayne’s uneasy relationship with Neil Henry ultimately led to the coach’s sacking and a tumultuous period of the club which copped plenty of flack for the appearance of siding with players.

But chief executive Graham Annesley said yesterday Hayne would not be called in – or called on while on World Cup duty with Fiji – to clarify rumours he is desperate to leave the club.

“There’s no reason to (seek clarification), he’s contracted,” Annesley said.

“I’m not going to start an inquisition when there’ nothing to start an inquisition on at this stage. Even on what he’s said today there’s no reason to take it any further.

“We’re not planning to do anything at the moment.

“He’s away with Fiji and we’re letting him concentrate on that.”

Hayne took to Twitter after New Corp broke the story he was unlikely to return to the Titans following the World Cup tournament.

“I have NOT instructed my manager to SPEAK to teams in Sydney,” Hayne posted, with the hash tag #slownewsday.

Hayne’s manager Wayne Beavis said he had no comment when contacted by the Bulletin.

But with Hayne concerned about the amount of contact he will have with his daughter he is all but certain to be lost to the club.

Hayne’s former partner Amellia Bonnici has reportedly moved to the NSW Central Coast with their daughter Beliviah Ivy and the star player is keen to be close to the pair to ensure he maintains a relationship with the 11-month-old.

The Titans are unlikely to play hard ball if Hayne is adamant he wants out.

But they deny there has been any application for the 29-year-old to be released from his contract, or that they have been in negotiations with any other club regarding his future.
