GOLD COAST WRAP WITH UBET’S NICOLE THOMAS

-

WINNERS

■ Time To Play (Race 3)

Punters just kept attacking Time To Play all the way from $9.50 down to $3.60 on race day and she opened up a whopping $31 on Friday. She jumped well and Luke Rolls rode her along to find the front. It was an easy watch for punters as the filly cruised away.

■ Romakash (Race 7)

Romakash was met with late support at the $5.75 and trimmed into $5.25. It was a huge win to get up in the shadows of the post. Solarcraft appeared to be off-and-gone in the straight but Romakash finished with a powerful turn of foot, making up a good three or four lengths in the straight.

LOSERS

■ Brilee Rose (Race 3)

Blew alarmingly from $2.90 out to $5. The 3YO filly was only having her second race start and she over-raced early, appeared to travel wide and was spent in the straight. There were a few excuses there so there still should be plenty of improvement to come.

■ Engraved (Race 7)

Engraved reached as high as $4.60 before punters shortened him in to $3.60. The gelding only jumped fairly and settled third last. He let down impressively in the last 200m to fly home for fourth. He’ll be better over longer.

Raggle Varr (Race 2)

Raggle Varr was a heavily supported $3.30 in to $2.90 but he couldn’t back up his impressive victory last start. After leading easily, punters were in trouble when he was headed on the home turn and only battled away in the straight. NEXT TIME

■ Message To Martha (Race 3)

Scratched on race morning, punters had swooped on the $26 UBET offered about Message To Martha and shortened her in to $6. That’s usually a very good lead-in for an untrialled first starter.

■ Red Scarlet (Race 5)

Red Scarlett blew from $3.40 out to $4.80 on race morning. Trapped wide and snagged back to last, he had to come widest in the straight hitting the line well and should be followed this prep.

■ Cushion Pink (Race 4) Nobody was keen to invest in Cushion Pink and her price soared from $5.00 out to $9.50. Only fairly away, she drifted back to last staying nearer the inside. Letting down well in the final stages, she finished close to the placegetters and is worth following second-up over more ground.
