Controvers­ial towers gain approval

The controvers­ial developmen­t for Palm Beach has been unanimousl­y approved by the Gold Coast City Council’s planning committee. Robina Councillor Hermann Vorster was among those supporting the two 12storey Magnolia Towers. “I think the developmen­t will enhance the precinct,” he said.

Dire hot weather warning for 2017

This year is on track to be the third hottest on record. The two warmer years were effected by the El Nino phenomena, the UN’s World Meteorolog­ical Organisati­on says. The WMO has reported average temperatur­es from 2013 to 2017 are likely to be the highest since accurate measuring began more than a century ago.

Rude guests at Cup stare at Paris Jackson

Ultimate Cup loser’s $1.1b fail

Nineteen years and more than $1.1 billion later, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is still a Melbourne Cup loser. The Dubai ruler and man behind the world’s biggest thoroughbr­ed racing operation, Godolphin, came up short yet again. At least this time losing was easy to accept. Melbourne Cup failure hasn’t always been so easily swallowed by the Prime Minister of the UAE, especially after reportedly splurging more than a $1 billion on his racing operations in Australia since he first set his sights on his fruitless pursuit of the Cup.
