CHANGE OF PACE: KEEPER BOWLING THEM OVER IN COAST COMP

- TERRY WILSON terry.wilson@news.com.au

NICK Yule used to be the man snaffling all the victims behind the stumps as keeper for the Alberton Force in past Kookaburra Cup campaigns.

This season, though, Yule has emerged as a handy member of the attack and over the weekend played a major role in the Force handing premiers Queens their second successive loss.

Yule took 4-19 from seven overs as Queens crashed to be all out for 83 chasing 151 at Greg Chaplin Oval.

“Nick used to keep a few years ago but started bowling last season,” Alberton skipper Corey Galloway said.

“It was that we never had a keeper so we used him there.

“He did all right on Saturday, getting four wickets even if he had a bit of luck.”

Galloway conceded Queens were missing guns for the Schaeffer Shield trials in Toowoomba – Sam and Harry Winton and and Mick Spargo.

“Obviously Queens were down on numbers but so are Jimmy we down on what we’ve had in the past,” he said. “This is more of a rebuilding year.”

While it was Alberton’s first win of the season it was the second straight loss for Queens as Burleigh emerged as the surprise ladder leaders.

The Bullsharks (4-119) easily hauled in the 118 set by Helensvale Pacific Pines at Avid Concrete Oval to surge nine points clear of Coomera Hope Island at the top.

Coomera rattled up 6-192 from their 40 overs then sent Runaway Bay packing for 136 at Sam Loxton Oval.

For Coomera the scoring was led by ex-Bay bat Richard Faust (59), Ryan Soars (51) and opener Jim Martin (45).

At Salk Oval, home side Palm Beach Currumbin (132) fell to Southport Labrador who made 9-137 batting first.

Surfers (7-125) lost to Broadbeach Robina (7-127) at Sir Bruce Small Park.
