SPOOKILY GOOD FILMS AT FESTIVAL

- DENIS DOHERTY AND BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

FILM buffs can get a sneak peak at some of Australia’s best emerging cinematic talent right here on the Gold Coast this weekend.

The Sanctuary Cove Film Festival kicks off this Saturday with daytime workshops, afternoon kids films and serious film screenings into the evening.

BAFTA Los Angeles winner and Australian Academy Awards nominee producer and actor Julian Ramundi’s short film ‘Gone’ will be among the films screened at the event.

The brainchild of Mike Goldman and Bianca Zouppas, the festival will have two industry-inspired workshops, running throughout both days, to spark the imagination of budding young actors and film fans.

Mr Goldman said the festival had been running three years and it was unearthing local talent.

“The amount of entries that we received (in our first year) was amazing, and it went so well that the next year we did it again.

“There’s so much great talent in Queensland and we’re really lucky in Australia that so many people love working with us.”

There will be film workshops, including make-up sessions where kids big and small can be transformed into their favourite movie characters.

On Saturday afternoon families can enjoy a special selection of animated films, just for little ones, before the red carpet is rolled out for the headlining short films from 7pm.
