CARAVAN OFFERS SILVER LINING FOR NEWLYWEDS

NEWLYWEDS are forgoing the traditional honeymoon suite for a classic Bambi Airstream caravan.

The 1963 caravan has been lovingly restored by Mudgeeraba couple Stephen and Allison Lee.

The Lees said they had always been interested in camping and saw the Airstream on display in the US.

“We were looking for a business to keep us going as we got older and had always been interested in camping, so we found someone who was able to import an Airstream,” Ms Lee said. “We wanted it to look exactly as it would have when new.”

The couple spent more than two years restoring it.

The flooring and cabinets were replaced. However, many of the original fixtures were retained and restored.

Among the first people to spend the night in the trailer were newlyweds Matt and Brittany Purves.

Mr Purves said the old trailer brought back many childhood memories for him.

Rental is $500 for a threeday weekend. The Lees hope to target the popular glamping market.

A development application has been made to the Gold Coast City Council for a glamping wedding venue in the Numinbah Valley.

It will go before council for approval early next year.
