’GREEN’ BALLOONS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR

A NEW balloon trend is blowing up on the Gold Coast.

Maudsland mums Nicole Coombs, 41, and Tanya Griffiths, 42, have been floating on air since their balloon decorating business, Love Balloons by Us, took off three months ago. The balloons are made from latex so are able to organically break down and contain air instead of helium, making them more environmentally friendly.

“I think as mums we are always a bit more conscious of the environment and our kids, ” Mrs Coombs said.

“We were probably inspired to find something more sustainable after throwing birthday parties for our kids.

“It’s become a huge trend to use latex balloons, they are much easier to twist into a design and they are safe.

“They work just like a regular balloon but better.

“You can move them around and squish them up and they won’t burst like a regular balloon.”

The mums use between 100 and 200 balloons to set up amazing displays which include arches, bouquets, columns, confetti balloons, jumbo balloons blowing up to 90cm and custom name balloons. The striking designs cost between $50 to $70 per metre.
